Welcome to another update Jousters! An interesting part of production is how to combine artistic design with pure functionality. Here at Joust for Fun, we’ve made a small change to our original-sized box. We liked the smaller box a lot, but we also found that after multiple stretch goals, and adding an insert to protect your cards, the box just has to grow a little bit (a few cm). The nice part about this functional change is that now our rule book will also be just a few cm larger, meaning larger font and better readability.

Ok, enough of ‘functionality’ and ‘readability,’ let’s get into the good stuff! -- We have sneak peak pictures of our shirts for you!

This little Self-Rescuing Princess is two years old, so all our kid’s shirts are too big for her, but we figured we’d show you anyway because… she is adorable! Now before you worry, yes, we have both adult-sized shirts and kid-sized shirts. And we have six designs, on two different style shirts. Those who ordered (or will order) a shirt will get a chance in BackerKit to decide exactly what they want. Here’s another picture, this time on a six year old

Finally, we will be at Long Beach Comic Con in two weeks. If you are attending, feel free to stop by our booth to play a game of Joust for Fun or for a hug! (#yetisarethebesthuggers) Mention you are one of our backers and we will give you a free sticker! If you can’t make it, we will be posting pictures on social media, so you can follow along with the fun!

Thank you Backers. We love you. Until next week,

Weekly Update — 08.20.18
over 5 years ago – Mon, Aug 20, 2018 at 10:47:06 PM

Hello Backers!

Thank you all for your patience. We have lots of great news to share today!

First, LOVE: We love you, and we want to show it! When the Kickstarter campaign ended, Stretch and his Extendo Lances were the current locked stretch goal. We take stretch goals seriously (Unlocking them is fun!). At the same time, we are beyond excited that your support, and we want to reward that. After hours of internal debate, we have decided to produce both Stretch and Extendo Lance and include them for free to our Backers! Congratulations Backers! – We love you, and you are getting (3) more free cards with each copy of Joust for Fun! (Also: Stretch is really fun and we love the art!)

BACKERKIT: Yes, we will have Backerkit to help you finalize your pledges/purchases!

We will explain BackerKit in more detail later, but if you don’t already know, BackerKit is an online store. Your Kickstarter pledge will be automatically uploaded into BackerKit as credit. Then you can finalize what you want (probably a copy of the game), check out, and you are done. You can also, if you wish, choose to buy add-ons in BackerKit.

Many add-ons for our Kickstarter family, like a second copy of Joust for Fun, will be cheaper ($25 + S/H) than for pre-order supporters that did not back on Kickstarter ($29 + S/H)

T-SHIRTS: We are super excited about our T-Shirts. We choose higher quality material that breathes better, and the vinyl prints look so good! BackerKit will have lots of pictures of our T-shirts, and BackerKit will guide you through the process to choose your shirt (if you want one). As a heads up, we have two designs (unisex Black and V-cut Heather Gray), you can choose your Knight (six options), and choose your size based on the sizing chart (Sm – XXXL*). We know you want to know which Knights are going to be on T-shirts, and that’s fair, but just wait patiently, wrestler or princess, there are some lions to tame, and we aren’t telling just Yeti

KIDS T-SHIRTS: There will be kids sized shirts as well (Princess/Yeti only). They will be the same cost.

STICKERS!: Want a cool sticker of your favorite Knight? BackerKit will have those too. Limited numbers/designs. Want a specific design? Email us your vote. Again, these will all be available, with pictures, in BackerKit.

PRODUCTION: We are currently in the process of uploading all our images, designs, Knights, Court Cards, Rulebook, Tokens, Box Art, etc. to our manufacturer. If all goes smoothly (Hey! Anything is possible), we expect a late February release. We will, of course, continue to keep you updated on our production.

UPDATES: We are going to try really hard to give you an update each Monday. Until then, we are working hard to open BackerKit as soon as possible. Thank you everybody! Until soon,

-BKG

Stretch goal #8 unlocked! Final Hour!!!
over 5 years ago – Sun, Aug 05, 2018 at 09:05:20 PM

Congratulations Backers -- on hitting yet another stretch goal (#8!). This time you've unlocked Lance Bass' Battle of the Bands, a 2-player scenario for Joust for Fun!

This scenario pits Lance Bass against Lance Bass in a 1v1 style game to determine who is the best Lance Bass. You can use the Red Lion version, the Black Lion version, or you could even use the regular Blue Lion version to play. Your goal is to knock out the opposing Lance Bass.

There isn't a lot of time remaining in our campaign, but we are super hopeful to hit 'Stretch' as yet another stretch goal. He rides a very historically inaccurate steed... well... you can see the art.

And, of course, we can't forget to show you their faces. These two make for a handsomely odd pair Jousters! Just watch out, that 5 strength and ability to target any Knight is very, very good.

We can't say this enough! We love you Backers! We are a small company, and this project wouldn't have been possible without you or without Kickstarter. Yes, they will get a small percentage of our funding, but we are incredibly grateful to Kickstarter for making this possible. I'm not sure they get enough praise for helping projects like ours crowd source their way to success! And, let's be real -- without you, none of this is possible. Not our dream. Not Kickstarter. Not Joust for Fun! You did this. We thank you. We double thank you. We triple dog dare thank you. We hope you thank yourselves as well.

Finally, we are incredibly humbled as this is our first ever Kickstarter, and you've helped us bring this project to life at well over 200% of our funding goal! We absolutely feel blessed and can't wait to deliver on this campaign. Once we figure out our next steps, hopefully in a few weeks, you will get another update! Thank you everybody!

In the meantime... we are going to sleep for a few days.

Stretch goal # 6 unlocked! Final hours!!
over 5 years ago – Sat, Aug 04, 2018 at 10:23:19 PM

You did it — another stretch goal has been unlocked! Every copy of Joust for Fun will now include Self-Rescuing Princess’ scenario “Rescue Mission” along with 4 alternate Self-Rescuing Princesses!

And that’s not all! Time is running out, but we are so so close to getting to 20k and unlocking Dread Pirate Roberta (from the Kickstarter “Princess Bride” parody video)!

Her ability is vicious — and makes it impossible to hide from Dread Pirate Roberta!

If we get to 20k (share the Kickstarter, share the video!) every copy of your game will also include Dread Pirate Roberta and 2 copies of her Court Card “Pick Your Poison!”

Thanks for reading today’s update! I know we promised you a Lady Dun Waiting preview, but we unlocked another stretch goal today instead — so Lady Dun Waiting will have to *wait* one more day! :-D :-D :-D

Thank you everybody. You are amazing and helping make this dream come true. You are awesome and we love you!

Until tomorrow!

Preview: Lady Dun Waiting and T-shirt info
over 5 years ago – Sat, Aug 04, 2018 at 10:23:13 PM

Welcome to our final 24hrs! It’s time to learn about Lady Dun Waiting!

Today’s preview gives us a powerful Knight that isn’t hesitating any longer.

Lady Dun Waiting is, literally, done waiting — even when she is blocked, she still does 2 damage to the opposing Knight!

She’s also, clearly, ready to ride off into the rainbow sunset :-D

As a peek into design, Lady Dun Waiting was one of our very first designs, and actually changed how Joust for Fun developed in both game play and artistically. Here, take a look at her Court Card.

The names of the two cards are similar. In the Court Card she is “in waiting.” Her date, however, didn’t show up for dinner. The waitress took a fancy to her though, and now she’s “dun waiting” and they are riding off into the sunset together. In short, a story. There is also some historical significance being played upon here (and if that’s your thing, also check out Anne Bowl’in — as she’s “ahead” of the game). :-)

How Lady in Waiting and Lady Dun Waiting changed Joust for Fun is fairly straightforward — we decided that each Court Card should match with a Knight. (Previously we had no intention of matching). This was the genesis of matching Khal BOGO with Mother of Extraordinary Deals (GOT parody), Six Million Dollar Black Knight with Patched Up (Monty Python), Retro Jouster with Shiny Quarter, etc.

See if you can discover all the references. Feel free to email us if you want a clue on any of the Knight’s parody genesis.

Finally, our Kickstarter page now has T-shirt mock ups in the add-on sections. Currently we have two locked-in options, Self-Rescuing Princess and Yeti or Not, but we are highly considering adding at least two more choices (Lady Dun Waiting and Lance Bass). Either way, you’ll get a survey through backer kit to choose your style (probably unisex vs V neck and sizing options).

That’s it for now. We are super close to 20k! Please share!! Thank you again for helping this game become a reality!
